Client Approval and legal declaration
You can request your clients approval before submitting their Self Assessment tax return.
You will need to impersonate your client by selecting the client via their dashboard and selecting the 3 dots and impersonate.
You should select tax submission and the year to be submitted. Once you have checked over the submission and are happy you should select the SA100 submission page and click request client approval at the bottom of the page. This will email the client asking them to approve the return. You will be notified when a client has approved or declined the self assessment.
If a client declines a self assessment, you should make contact with the client and make any required amendments. Once the changes have been made repeat the client approval step.
When a client has approved their self assessment and you are ready to submit to HMRC you should return to the SA100 submission page and click ‘Submit’ to HMRC and follow the onscreen instructions.
Entering your submission credentials
To be able to submit your clients tax return to HMRC you will need to ensure you have entered your HMRC credentials in your Agent profile. You will need your HMRC Government Gateway password and should follow the onscreen instructions to complete submission.
Audit trail for submission - approval date, IR mark, submission date.
Once submission is completed you will be able to see receipt of the submission on the clients tax submission page which includes the IR mark for proof of submission and the submission date. On your Agent dashboard you can view your client and see the tax return status as submitted and the date of submission.
You can download a copy of the report after submission, the report will include the submission Receipt ID (IR Mark), submission date and the breakdown of information and figures submitted to HMRC as well as the calculation breakdown of income tax and any amount due.
To download a copy of the submission report from your clients dashboard you should select Tax Submission section > Applicable tax year > Select the SA100 submission page > Show more at the bottom of the page > Download Report
